Launching automation via reactions to Instagram stories is a great tool to attract more clients, as users don’t need to know a specific code word.

The user simply leaves one of the quick reactions provided:

The automation triggers the set scenario, and the user immediately receives a response in Direct.

The same rules apply for gamification: users can leave quick reactions to your stories and earn points for doing so.

However, there are some nuances:

  • Instagram only tracks quick reactions (emoji reactions). Likes and stickers as reactions will not trigger the automation, and these actions are also not tracked in the game.

  • Instagram stops tracking quick reactions in your Direct messages if you have more than 50,000 followers.

Why? Instagram helps to reduce the load on your Direct with high engagement from followers, which means automation won’t work on accounts with this level of followers.

If you have more than 50,000 followers, you’ll need to use the “Story Reply” trigger instead.

When choosing this trigger, the automation will be triggered when the user replies to your story with any message.
