Connecting an Instagram account to ChatPlace using Instagram

A new way to connect via Instagram API without using Facebook

ChatPlace is approved by Meta and works on the official Instagram API. If you choose the connection method described below - Instagram account connection is done exclusively through Instagram. We do not request or store your data when connecting.

Therefore Instagram account blocking and other restrictions for using ChatPlace are not possible. ChatPlace complies with all Meta’s rules and regulations. You can use all the functionality of our service without worrying about the safety of your account.

  1. Setting up an Instagram account

1. To connect your Instagram account to ChatPlace and for the automations to work properly, make sure your account is set up correctly.

1.1 Switching your Instagram account to professional mode

  • In your Instagram profile, open "Settings and activity"

  • Roll down to "Account type and tools”

  • Then, click on "Switch to Professional Account"

  • You will see the page "Get Professional Tools"

  • Click "Continue" and follow the prompts

  • Answer the question “What better describes you”, click “Done”

  • Instagram will prompt you to switch to a "Business" or "Creator" account - choose whichever suits your goals best)

*If your account has already been set to professional mode, the settings will have an option "Business Tools and Controls". In this case, you do not need to change your account type.

You can verify that your account is already professional this way:

  • In your Instagram profile, open "Settings and activity"

  • In the settings, find the "For Professional Accounts" section

  • Select "Business Tools and Controls " or "Creators Tools and Controls"

  • Find the "Switch Account Type" option

  • If Instagram prompts you to switch to a personal account - this means you already have a professional account.

1.2 Permission to access messages

Granting permission for messaging is required specifically through the Instagram app. To do so:

  • Go to "Settings and Privacy"

  • Then to "Messages and story replies"

  • Open the setting: "Message controls"

  • Scroll down and check that the permission to exchange messages is enabled, if it's disabled - enable it (“Allow access to messages”)

II. Connecting an Instagram account to ChatPlace

To connect your Instagram account to ChatPlace, go to "Automations" and find "Accounts". Click on the "+" icon:

From the list of available platforms, select Instagram:

You will be presented with a choice of connection method, select the option to connect "Using Instagram".

In the next step, when you click the "Using Instagram" button, you will leave ChatPlace and go to Instagram:

*We recommend that you log in to your Instagram account in your browser via the official Instagram.com website beforehand to make sure there are no problems logging in to your account.

ChatPlace does not request or store data for authorization to your account. The connection is made exclusively on the Instagram side.

If you haven't already been authorised in your browser - a standard Instagram account authorisation window will open in front of you:

Enter your login and password, then authorise into the account using the "Log in" button.

If you have two-factor authentication installed - confirm the login.

*If you see only a white screen after authorisation - disable two-factor authentication in the Instagram app settings for the period of connection.

To disable two-factor authentication:

  • In your Instagram profile, open "Settings and activity"

  • In the settings, go to the "Accounts Center" section

  • In the account centre window that opens, find "Password and security".

  • Select "Two-Factor Authentication",

  • Select the account and disable all methods of getting the code.

After successfully authorising your Instagram account - Instagram will offer to grant our app access to some of your account data.

Make sure you are authorised to the correct account, the permission window should show your account name:

After that, make sure you provide all the necessary permissions. This is necessary for your automations and growth tools to work correctly.

Click on the "Allow" button to complete the configuration.

If the account is successfully linked, the following screen will be displayed:

Click on the "Create Automation" button to return to the Automations section.

Congratulations! Your account is successfully connected and you can start setting up automations and using other ChatPlace features.
